How Does CBD for Athletes Work?
Lots of athletes swear by CBD because it’s gentle enough to take daily with minimal to no side effects and it works for many. When it comes to sports recovery, sports injuries, and athletic performance, inflammation and pain are the biggest areas of concern.
CBD for athletes may be extremely effective because of the way it interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is in charge of maintaining and restoring our body’s internal balance also known as homeostasis. This system enables our bodies to produce our own cannabinoids known as endocannabinoids.
Like any other system in our bodies, the ECS can also malfunction, and it may need support from time to time. If it doesn’t work optimally, you may notice more inflammation, pain, and overall lack of balance. Some ways to boost ECS health include taking CBD, exercising, and eating probiotic and fiber rich foods.
When we workout vigorously, muscle fibers are microscopically torn. As our muscles go through some tearing, inflammation arises because of the tiny injuries which can lead to pain and soreness. When CBD is consumed, or applied on the skin, it interacts with the ECS to restore balance in the body. If the ECS is alerted of an imbalance within the muscular system, then the immune system will take over. The immune system is partially managed by the ECS.
When our immune systems are malfunctioning, inflammation levels can heavily fluctuate, but CBD can come in to help support ECS function, and thus, immune function too for better recovery and performance. This may explain why so many people swear by CBD for sports injuries and CBD for athletes’ recovery.
Beyond just helping support athletes and gym junkies, CBD topicals and consumables help people with autoimmune conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, and more to live with less pain and inflammation, and more comfort and balance. By helping those with chronic conditions that lessen quality of life, we may help create more opportunity for these individuals to do gentle exercise without the huge burden of pain and slow recovery times.
