Vaping CBD Oil: Everything You Need to Know

Vaping is one of the most popular ways to consume CBD oil. There are a lot of CBD products on the market, so this guide is intended to provide an overview of what CBD is, how to select a CBD oil for vaping, how much to vape, and side effects and benefits. Of course, if you’re currently taking any medications, consult with your doctor before using CBD for its therapeutic benefits.

What is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol, a naturally occurring ingredient in cannabis. The Cannabis plant contains more than 100 chemical compounds, called cannabinoids. Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is the most well-known cannabinoid, but CBD is the second most well-known cannabinoid. CBD is isolated from the plant and is becoming increasingly popular for its therapeutic properties.

CBD has a range of benefits and is used to treat symptoms associated with pain, inflammation, anxiety, depression, nausea, and epilepsy. It can be infused into several different products including oils, edibles, capsules, and creams. Cannabidiol can be made from either marijuana or hemp cannabis. In order for CBD to be classified as legal, it must contain less than .03% THC levels in the US and .2% in the UK.

Does CBD vape oil get you high?

Although CBD does have the same molecular structure as THC, it has different effects on the body because the atoms are arranged differently and thus affects different parts of the brain. CBD won’t get you high unless it’s derived from marijuana that also contains THC. ReThink CBD contains Zero THC.

While THC alters sensory perception and affects motor skills, CBD affects the mechanism in the brain that binds specific receptors involved in anxiety and pain, without the psychoactive effects. CBD made from hemp is no longer criminalized by the federal government and users of ReThink CBD do not need to be concerned with failing a drug test.

Can you vape CBD oil?

Not all CBD oils are created equal – there’s an important distinction between CBD oil made for inhalation and CBD oil tinctures. CBD oil, also known as hemp oil, has been traditionally consumed orally. It usually contains MCT oil or another mixing oil and is not suitable for vaping. Vaping oil meant to be consumed orally is very dangerous and can pose serious health risks such as lipoid pneumonia.

CBD oil made for vaping isn’t actually oil-based, despite its name. When researching a brand of CBD oil for vaping, be sure to select a brand and type that is made to be inhaled. Unfortunately, many brands do not have proper warning labels and it can be difficult to tell which is safe to vape. Check the ingredients label: if it has anything other than VG, PG, CBD extract, terpenes, and cannabinoids then it’s likely not made for inhalation. The label should also mention vaping or vape juice.

What is CBD vape oil?

There are a few different types of CBD oil for vaping:

• CBD Cartridges: These small, disposable cartridges are similar to THC or tobacco cartridges that screw into an electronic cigarette with a standard 510-thread battery. Other cartridges are compatible with popular devices like the JUUL; these are known as pods. Cartridges can contain pure CBD or be mixed with flavoring agents.

• CBD Disposable Vape Pens: These are pre-filled with CBD Oil ready for vaping, and do not need to be charged ever. ReThink Pens provide 200-300 doses (puffs) and ready to go out of the box.

• CBD Vape Juice: Although commonly referred to as “CBD vape oil,” CBD made for vaping doesn’t contain any actual oil. CBD vape juice, CBD distillate or CBD isolate for vaping may be more appropriate names. These are usually made with food-grade ingredients, so they can also be taken orally, but are very different from traditional oral tinctures. Again, look carefully at the ingredients before vaping CBD.

CBD vape benefits

Research suggests that CBD has many different therapeutic properties. Here are a few of the conditions it has been used for and its benefits:

• Anxiety and depression: Studies have shown that CBD’s mood-regulating effects are a safe and non-addictive way to treat anxiety and depression. Researchers also believe CBD can be helpful in treating other anxiety disorders such as OCD and PTSD.

• Chemotherapy side effects: Symptoms including nausea and vomiting were among the first symptoms to be treated in medical cannabis experiments. In 1990, the American Society of Clinical Oncology conducted a study that showed nearly half of its members had recommended cannabis to at least one chemotherapy patient. More recent studies have shown that CBD can be equally effective in treating these symptoms.

• Diabetes: CBD has been shown to neutralize many of the effects of high glucose and effectively treat type 1 diabetes.

• Epilepsy: Research dating back to 1973 has shown that CBD actively minimized or blocked convulsions in rats. Another double-blind study demonstrated that epileptic patients who took 200 to 300 mg of CBD daily had fewer seizures. Last year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a CBD-based drug for treating seizures called Epidiolex.

• Heart disease: CBD’s anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties has shown it to prevent damage from cerebral ischemia, which is a form of heart disease that can lead to stroke. Other studies have suggested that CBD has additional benefits for the cardiovascular system, including lowering blood pressure.

• Inflammation: Research has suggested that CBD can treat arthritis and sciatica due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Other studies have shown it to be a safe and effective treatment for chronic pain.

Insomnia: CBD has been shown to increase sleep time for insomniacs at a dose of about 160 mg. It can also be micro-dosed to promote alertness, instead of causing drowsiness.

• Neurological disorders: CBD works by impacting the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a brain signaling system with receptors throughout the body. One of the most studied uses for CBD has been treating neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis and epilepsy. An oral spray called Sativex containing CBD and THC has been proven to help reduce multiple sclerosis symptoms. Several studies have shown that CBD treatment has improved the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s disease and reduced cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s patients.

• Psychosis: Researchers believe CBD can be instrumental inhibiting symptoms of psychosis. Furthermore, in 1995, one study indicated that CBD is an effective treatment for schizophrenia.

How much CBD should I vape?

Female Vaping

Recommended dosages for CBD will vary greatly depending on a range of factors such as tolerance, body weight and symptoms being treated. Factors such as metabolism can mean unique results for each person. A cartridge that contains 100 mg of CBD will deliver 1 to 2 mg of CBD with each puff. To find your dosage, start low with the minimum dosage of 1 to 2 mg and work your way up, waiting about six hours between each dose. We recommend starting at a dosage of about 25 mg per day.

Once you feel positive effects, stick with that dosage. The average CBD user will take an average of 10 to 30 mg per day. CBD has little risk of overdosing: research has shown that it is very low in toxicity and preliminary research indicated that humans would need to consume hundreds of times the average daily dose at once in order to be at risk for overdosing. However, it’s important to stick with the minimum dosage that will work for you.

CBD vape oil effects

Research is still early on CBD’s side effects, but the most commonly reported side effect of using CBD so far is mild drowsiness. Other symptoms included changes in appetite and dry mouth. Side effects of CBD so far have tended to be less pronounced than many prescription drugs. It’s important to purchase high-quality CBD from trusted brands to minimize any unwanted side effects. Reputable brands will have overwhelmingly positive customer and professional reviews and will test their products with credible third-party labs so that customers know what they’re getting.

Is vaping the only way to consume CBD?

There are many alternatives to vaping CBD, including oral tinctures, drinks, capsules, edibles, and CBD isolate powder. Remember, if you decide to vape CBD, be sure to purchase CBD intended for inhalation. Most CBD vape juice can be taken orally, as they are usually made with food-grade ingredients, but it doesn’t work the other way around. Always read the label for use instructions.

How to vape CBD oil

Whether you’re using a JUUL, disposable CBD vape pen, or rechargeable vape, all vapes work roughly the same way: a battery source powers a heating element that vaporizes the CBD Oil in a small chamber, at which point the user inhales the vapor through a small mouthpiece. Once the cartridge is connected to the battery, press the power button (if your device has one) while inhaling, starting with small puffs. Start slow, and work your way up to the optimal dose for you. Wait five to 10 minutes between puffs to see how the CBD affects you.
