So, you may be asking, how does CBD work for my pets?

Now that there is broad spectrum CBD made without THC, there is a safe product that can be given to animals without high inducing effects. Studies show that CBD given to animals may improve arthritis, pain associated with muscular issues, and anxiety. The common treatment plan to manage these issues is NSAIDs which help lower inflammation, but they can lead to some negative side effects if taken too often.

Vets and animal specialists have looked to cannabidiol in hopes of helping animals that don’t benefit from conventional treatment plans. Even though CBD is not FDA approved, emerging scientific studies have demonstrated several benefits of CBD for animals. Like humans trying to manage panic attacks, mental illnesses, social anxiety disorder, and more, CBD may benefit animals in a similar way possibly decreasing pain, inflammation, anxiety, and stress.

Animals can consume CBD orally through CBD dog treats or sprays or have it applied topically. Like us, they also have an endocannabinoid system (ECS) which helps interact with cannabinoids, thus being able to influence metabolic/chemical reactions and organ functions in the body.

All bodies (including that of animals) have CB1 and 2 receptors that are ready to interact with either endocannabinoids or other cannabinoids that are externally consumed. When they consume CBD, the body moves it around to these receptors and CBD makes the recpetors more sensitive to cannabinoids, thus possibly altering organ function.

CB1 receptors are more commonly found throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems (brain, spinal cord, and nerves). This is why interactions with the CB1 receptors are more in charge of psychological and brain/nervous system mechanisms.

The CB2 receptors are more abundant within the immune system, specifically within T cells. This means that CB2 is more in charge of immune function and response. They will have an effect on pain and inflammation.

For example, let’s say that your dog is suffering from topical allergies like eczema. The skin is home to many of these CB2 receptors. As soon as our topical creams are applied to the skin, they are absorbed and quickly interact with skin receptors. These receptors are in charge of decreasing inflammation, calming the immune system from overworking itself, thus possibly reducing eczema.

Pet owner tip: to make the CBD work even faster and better, feed your pets cannabinoid and omega 3 rich foods. Some examples include sweet potato, broccoli, and fish.

One study demonstrated that out of all CBD product types, oils seem to show highest potency within blood tests. Our CBD oil sprays made with pure CBD are the strongest products for pets because they enter the bloodstream the quickest. So, for those of you looking to help your pets with chronic ailments (i.e., anxiety symptoms, specific phobias), we recommend the oil sprays of 250mg concentration.

  • I am in Costa Rica and ordered the spray for my dog 250 mg. She has epileptic seizures and my vet recommended it as well as phenobarbital. I understand she needs 2 sprays for her weight but how often should I give it? Once in the A.m. and once at night?

    • Good afternoon Cheryl!
The most common practice is to add the spray to their food once a day but we would suggest starting with a small dosage and building your way up to higher dosages to allow time for their bodies to adjust. You may then increase the number of times a day you give them the spray, if you would like. In the morning and in the night is fine.
It can be given directly in their mouth, on treats, food, or water. Directly is best for efficacy.
